Popular mobile entertainment provider mSpot, Inc. and Verizon Wireless recently announced the launch of mSpot Radio, a service aimed at providing the operator's users with a wide selection of music on their handsets. According to the wireless carrier, the new service should provide commercial-free music radio, personal radio, branded talk, and more.

“When it comes to radio access and music discovery on their phones, people demand variety,” said Ed Ruth, director of business development and partner management at Verizon Wireless. “But customers also want quality. Working with mSpot and others, we’re bringing different and sophisticated new apps to all of our phones, including 3G Multimedia handsets and 3G smartphones.”

There are more than 60 3G multimedia and simple feature phones (with support for the Brew platform) on Verizon's airwaves that include support for the new mSpot Radio. The new service is expected to offer a great radio experience on each handset through matching the application platforms and audio encodings with the device and network.

The application enables customers browse content, including talk shows, or access recently played stations and bookmark favorite stations. Moreover, there is a Personal Radio function through which one can create stations with music from favorite artists. Through this option, one would be able to skip, ban or heart stations for enhanced customization. The download of songs on mobile phones is another available feature.

“mSpot is proud to work with Verizon Wireless to power its mobile radio offerings for 3G Multimedia customers. We are combining rich and easy-to-use functionality and premium content – which means the best possible mobile radio experience for customers,” said mSpot chief executive officer Daren Tsui.

mSpot Radio includes a number of more than 70 genre stations (pop, urban, R&B, hip-hop and Latin), in addition to over 440 local radio stations from major markets (Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago and Austin, Texas). New releases and hits are added each week to stations. Not to mention that mSpot's exclusive Ten Spot station provides music from different artists each and every week. mSpot offers content from ABC, FOX Sports, NPR, Disney, SportingNews, MarketWatch, PRI, Rooftop Comedy, and The Onion Radio News.
